Nermin Habib

Nermin Habib is an Egyptian choreographer and dancer who has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. Themes of belonging and identity form a common thread in her work. She is mainly interested in self-expression in a world where the use of the body as a means of expression is being called into question, especially for women.

Nermin Habib trained in contemporary dance at the Cairo Contemporary Dance School and is certified by the Conseil International de la Danse in France. In 2019, she received a grant from Mophradat to take part in an intensive programme of contemporary dance in Amsterdam. Following this, she co-founded the ECHO company, which specialises in professional training programmes and focuses on marginalised communities and the disabled. She has taken part in numerous festivals, residencies and performances as a dancer and choreographer in Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Algeria, and across Europe. In 2023, she became an alumnus of the GCRP (Global Cultural Relations Program) in Madrid.

As an Egyptian artist, Nermin Habib is especially interested in the cultural heritage of her country, for example baladi dance and tahteeb. In parallel with her practice, she runs dance workshops and educational projects for women, children and disabled groups.
